Corktown Underdog: Bobcat Bonnie’s

There’s cool, and then there’s “Detroit cool.” The latter is an essence. A force. A pheromone seeping from the body and into the ether as pure swagger. Something that cannot be mimicked by a city of any other name. It is unabashedly exactly what it is, nothing more and nothing less. Within the heart of the city, the cultural epicenter that is Midtown and its surrounding nooks, there’s a staple of inspired cuisine on every corner. Case in point: Corktown’s Bobcat Bonnie’s. Fried goat cheese, $1 Michelob Ultras, handlebar mustaches, and ironic t-shirts abound. With its exposed brick interior and backroom offering a hearty dose of nostalgia with old-school arcade and board games, Bobcat has all the makings of a hipster paradise. It’s hard to stand out in a scene peppered with competition, touting a menu of craft beers, craft cocktails, and oddball brunch and lunch delights, but with nearly a solid year under its belt, Bobcat Bonnie’s is fighting its way to the top of the pack. The restaurant sports an impressive menu of vegetarian, vegan, and deliciously deep-fried options that provide a little something for everyone to love. Owner Matthew Buskard is onto something, and it’s absolutely delicious.

Include Bobcat Bonnie’s on your next excursion through Corktown. (Pro tip: The Naan Club will make you question everything you thought you knew about how a sandwich could make you feel. You’ve been warned.)
